I'm Still Here (Just)
Apologies for not updating since the quarter finals, but my hard drive decided to break down at the wrong time. All of my PREDICTASOCCER LEAGUE files have been lost, so I'm battling to produce next seasons competition. Have no fear. It WILL happen.
As for the World Cup Extra, luckily I have kept the details. However, due to time restrictions, the format of the league tables and other information will look differently, but I guarantee it WILL be correct.

Quarter Finals In The Bag
The Quarter Finals have been completed and this great World Cup continues to bring us brilliant entertainment. First up were France and Germany. It was the least entertaining match of the four matches, and with just a 1-0 win. Germany went through to the Semi Finals, but who would they play?
The answer came in the next game, Brazil v Colombia. The hosts were up against a formidable opponent but came out 2-1 winners so it will be Brazil v Germany for one Semi Final.
The other one? Well, Holland and Costa Rica had to go to penalties to decide their match, with Holland coming away the victors, and then had a short wait to find out who their semi final opponents would be.
Although this Quarter Final match only had one goal in it, it was a very good game. Argentina beat Belgium 1-0 which confirmed that the second semi final will be Argentina v Holland.
As for our competition, leader KYLE BRIGGS increased his lead by gaining two maximum 50 pointers and two 25's. Also getting 2 of each was DENISE HANCOCK, which pushes her into 2nd place.
With a maximum 225 points left to play for, mathematically its anyone from the top 8 of our league table. Realistically, it's looking like KYLE BRIGGS should become champion, with the 2nd spot (free entry to 2014/15 season) up for grabs for most everyone else (except for me).

First Round Knock Outs Over
Yesterday saw the final matches from round One of the Knock Out section of the World Cup. And what fantastic two games we saw !
Firstly, Argentina played Switzerland, and it took Argentina until the 118th minute, inside extra time to secure a 1-0 win over Switzerland. Not the best match of the World Cup for football purists, but as a tactical match it was terrific.
The second match of the day, was Belgium v USA. On paper, Belgium looked to be the stronger side, but the USA side showed more steel and determination to not give in than any other side in this World Cup so far, Unfortunetly for the States however, the Belgians scored twice in Extra Time. No-one would have blamed the Americans if their heads had dropped at this point. However, they still didn't give up and in fact managed to score a consolation goal to make it a 2-1 win for Belgium. They now go on to play Argentina in the Quarter Finals.
VICKY ROWBOTHAM scored another 50 point maximum, along with KYLE BRIGGS.

Day 3 Of Knock Outs
Games 5 & 6 were played yesterday, with France beating Nigeria 2-0 and the Germans winning a very close game 2-1 AET against Algeria. That means all the African nations teams are now out of the World Cup.
This means France will play Germany in the Quarter-Finals.
Quite a few of you scored some maximum 50 pointers in these two games. BRANDON WOLFE got 2 to give him 100 points, whilst TRACI WOLFE, JOEL KERRIGAN, PAUL LANE, DAVID SHEPHERD, VICKY ROWBOTHAM and WAYNE STOCKS got a 50 pointer each.

It's A Knock Out
We're into the second day of the Knock Out Stages, with four matches played.
BRAZIL had to take the game to penalties against Chile, but eventually made it through to the Quarter-Finals, to face Colombia, who beat Uruguay 2-0.
Holland had to come from 1-0 down to beat Mexico 2-1, whilst Costa Rica kept their dreams alive by defeating Greece on penalties.
Of course, getting the right predictions is even more important now, as the points are increased to 25 points for the correct team OR the correct score. For both correct, it's a massive 50 points.
From these 4 knock out games, BRANDON WOLFE, KEV BARRATT, KYLE BRIGGS, VICKY ROWBOTHAM and DENISE HANCOCK, have all managed to gain one maximum 50 pointer each so far.
